One of the books I decided to get out when looking for information on Nostalgia was this book. After seeing some of the TV series I thought it would be interesting to see what the book stalked about. This extract is from the beginning of the book and give an explanation as to what vintage is.

New Retro

This is a short section to their introduction, explains that our fascination with the old is not a new thing. 

Material world

This is an extract from a craft book called Material World the modern craft bible by Perri Lewis.

It tals about the re emergence of crafts and why people like it, such as if you make it yourself you don't have to worry about it possibly being made in a swet shop. It also talks about how cyber community's have helped the development of crafts and that people can get together on line and talk and discuss ideas.

Nostalgic craft

One thing that I have noticed a lot with nostalgia is that it has a large presence in craft magazines. Here are a few that I picked up based on their amount of nostalgic content.

What this blog is about

For my dissertation what I would like to do is research nostalgic culture and the recycling of visual culture. This blog into documentation of my research for my topic, my key aims are:

1) Discover why people like nostalgia. I want to understand the appeal of the nostalgia, especially why it is so prominent today. 

2) Compare the culture of nostalgia to that of popular consumer culture and new media.

3) What is it about nostalgia that some people prefer it to popular new media and consumer products.

4) I also want to look at why we recycle our visual culture. What is it about some things that we like to re-use them.

5) Look at various counter arguments for our love for nostalgic and the recycling of visual culture.
